When done properly, which will require a little practice,
downshifting will take less than a second. When adept at double
clutching, youll be able to use your right foot for
both braking and depressing the accelerator pedal at the same
time. While called Heel and Toeing, on an Alfa,
you really use the edges of your foot to do the job.
When the clutch is released in the lower gear the engine speed
will exactly match your road speed. The shift will be perfectly
smooth with no jerking, which can unsettle the suspension.
This saves wear on the transmission synchros, clutch, flex
donut, universal joints, and rear axle gears. Plus it feels
and sounds great!
