FAQs: What is a reasonable budget to restore an Alfa?

Make sure you can afford the time and the money. There will be a lot of both spent on the car. Be realistic about this too. A dismantled car sells for peanuts, no matter how much you paid for it.

Do the job right. Don’t cut corners. This is our biggest soapbox! An Alfa done on the cheap will never, and I mean never, reach its full potential. It will just be another old car. If it isn’t done correctly, you may not be able to sell it at all, or only get a project car price because it will have to be restored again. A job done particularly well will get particularly good money.

Money. For a good amateur restoration, with new paint, interior, mechanical rebuilding, etc., figure around $17,000 to $28,000 on top of the price of the car. For a professional, complete restoration, figure around $35,000 to $50,000 for a proper and stunning car.
